Ahmi - just one of the girls

This picture was taken by Mom at the Beijing Summer Palace in China during the summer of 2007. Ahmi was 9 at the time and after just a little convincing Mom got a group of young students to let Ahmi into their after school gathering. The place where this was taken was very scenic in itself. Not pictured is the long carved walkway extending for a few hundred yards to either side bordering a pristine lake where there were boat tours. I think these girls were quite unused to the influx of tourists, China wasn't the most popular vacation destination at this time, and seeing an American girl was rather exciting for them. Kudos to Mom for seizing the opportunity for a great picture!

An After-school Race in Belize

This is one of my all time-favorite pictures. We were sitting down for a quick lunch in a small town in Belize. This was quite a late lunch, sometime around 3. Around this time the local school was letting the kids out and they happened to be walking right by our restaurant. Mom told me to get out the camera and take some pictures since I was working on putting an album together documenting children around the world. As this trio of girls was crossing the street they decided to have an impromptu race. Luckily, I got a quick snapshot of them as they were speeding by.

Casillero del diablo

We went to the winery La concha y Torro (the rooster and bull), in Chile in the winter of 2008. They have quite the reputation as the name of their wine cellar was "casillero del diablo" which I believe translates to "wine cellar of the devil" in order to ward away potential thieves and bulgars. Above is a picture of the vineyard.

Vision

I'm not too sure how I want to go about doing this blog. Most likely I will be employing the much needed assistance of the Dhuna family (which means Mom) in uploading the pictures and writing about each place and trip we go on. I'll try to do the first trip to provide a template, but look for an update (and I'm speaking to the many followers this blog obviously spawned in the four hours since I created it). Let it be known that my vision for this blog is a travel diary with includes notable photos (not of the family, since that is what facebook is for) and hotel recommendations. We'll see if it lives up to that vision two, three years down the road.
